About the club

April 10, 2006

The Club of Rome is a discussion group that meets every other month to consider complex social issues in world affairs. We have chapters in New York and San Francisco. There are many places to hear experts offer their individual views, but rarely is there a forum for public discussion among peers. The Club of Rome aspires to provide that forum, beginning each session with a speaker who can educate the group but spending the majority of the evening in a moderated discussion. Everyone is encouraged to participate. The group's name is taken from an international NGO dedicated to social change, which gained fame in the 1970s for publishing the report "Limits to Growth," making the first prominent claim that the environment might not be able to support civilization's continued expansion. If you are from another city and would like to form your own chapter, we would be happy to offer advice on how to apply our model.
